Very rarely are legends created. However, Martin guitar is known for doing just that. Martin is a legendary guitar company known for exceptional sound quality and high-end prices, but if you dig deep enough, you will be able to find that sonic excellence at a bit more of an affordable price.

In this Martin DRS1 review, I hope to show you how they have done it again, but this time at a price anyone can afford.

You can never question the quality of a Martin electric acoustic guitar with the top, back and sides crafted of solid Sapele and braced for resonance and projection.

The DRS1 neck is constructed with multilaminate Stratabond for extra rigidity and ruggedness, and the bridge and fingerboard are made of Richlite that achieves a similar look to ebony.

This DRS1 comes equipped with the Fishman Sonitone sound reinforcement system giving it the classic Martin sound that we have all come to love and expect.

Once again the guys at Guitar Center have produced a great video about the Martin Road Series DRS1. Eventually, we hope to add them to our list of vendors for all our musical instrument reviews. Take a look at the video and check out all that the Martin Road series acoustic-electric guitar has to offer.

Bottom Line

This guitar offers a great value for money. The sonic quality is easily worth twice more than the indicated price tag. If you want to enter the realm of high-end instruments, but can’t spend thousands of dollars on it. Then give the Martin DRS1 a chance. As long as you are after a top-level acoustic-electric guitar, this one is an option you won’t regret making.

Treat yourself to owning a legend with one of these today!

Thank you for taking the time to read our Martin DRS1 review.

Features

  • The top, back, and sides of the Martin DRS1 are made of solid Sapele.
  • The neck is white birch that is dyed and laminated into large blocks before being carved. This process is intended to increase strength and stability.
  • The 20 medium frets are perfectly crowned and polished. Meticulous care was taken in cutting the Corian nut and compensated Tusq saddle.
  • The Martin DRS1 has an easy to play neck shape. It is a modified low oval with a 1 and 11/16-inch nut. Its contour feels full but not overwhelming.
  • The action is nice and low, and it was easy to play both open and bar chords up and down the neck. It was also easy to pick brisk single-note lines in all registers.
  • The Martin DRS1 comes with the low-cost Fishman Sonitone preamp system. This is located in the soundhole; mounting the preamp with rotary controls for volume and tone just inside the bass side of the soundhole.
  • It has a bold, lively sound. With its snappy, tight bass the Martin DRS1 projects chords with depth and soul while a bright, clear top end adds sweetness to the timbre.

Pros

  • Lively sound and excellent playability.
  • Onboard Fishman electronics.
  • Quality construction at an affordable price.
  • The opportunity to own a legend.

Cons

  • Some people do not like the fact it is manufactured in Mexico.
  • There have been some complaints of the strap button position hampering play on the higher frets.
