Our Sony MDR 1000x Review

Sony Corporation Profile:

Sony Corporation was founded in 1946 in Tokyo, just after the Second World War.  It was first named Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo by its founders, Masaru Ibuka and Akio Morita.  This company built the first tape recorder in Japan.

The company’s name was changed to Sony in 1958, which comes from two words, ‘sonus’, meaning the root of sound and sonic, and ‘sonny’ or ‘sonny boys’, meaning smart and presentable men.  Sony made its first transistor radio for Japan in 1955.  Since then, it has emerged as a leading manufacturer of electronics for consumers and professional markets.  Its range of products includes electronic equipment, entertainment devices, gaming equipment and much more.  For more information on the services and products of Sony, feel free to visit the link:

  • Wireless- Sony MDR 1000x is power-packed equipment, designed to free the user from any bonds. The headphone comes with wireless capability.  With Bluetooth and NFC connectivity, MDR 1000x is just the right equipment for a commuter.
  • Simple look- The headphone comes with a very simple look. It looks ordinary from a distance.  But hold it and you will see how elegant the design is.
  • Sturdy build- The headphones are made of high-quality plastic and are quite sturdy. Unlike most other headphones, there are no crack noises when putting them over the head.
  • Comfortable fit-The headphone sits perfectly on the ears with no feeling of pressure on the skin. It gives the perfect amount of support, the amount required for the headphones to stay on while not applying pressure on the ears.
  • Advanced Sound Calibration Technique- These headphones have a built-in Personal NC Optimizer feature which calibrates sound in an advanced way to tailor to the needs of the user according to all kinds of environments.
  • Noise Cancellation- The feature for which this headphone is most noted for is its Noise Cancellation feature. What makes this headphone standout from the rest is the degree of dynamism used to achieve different levels of noise cancellation in different conditions.
  • Ambient Sound Mode- This mode is a superb addition to the already existing features of this equipment. One can choose to block the outside world, but in addition to that, also choose to hear the important noises that matter.  This mode makes this possible.
  • Quick Listen Mode- The MDR 1000x boasts a quick listen mode. This allows the user to hear other people, even without removing the headphones or pausing the music.
  • Long battery life- Sony promises a battery life of about 20 hours for the MDR 1000x with the noise cancellation turned on.
  • Four Microphones- MDR 1000x has 4 built-in microphones, making them a tough competition to other Noise Cancellation headphones, in the category of voice call clarity.
  • Touch Controls- An appealing feature of the headphone is its touch control buttons, which makes this cutting-edge headphone like eye candy.

Our Review

What we found after going through lots of advertisements and customer reviews, and after testing the product ourselves, that the MDR 1000x stands atop the list of Noise Cancellation Headphones.  It proves to be a beast.

Its plastic build is firm, well designed and fits comfortably on all head shapes.  The Personal NC Optimizer calibrates the headphone based on the head on which the headphone sits.

MDR 1000x effectively blocks all outside noises to provide the best sound experience to the user.  Tested in the harshest of conditions, such as near a construction site, this headphone performed very well.  The Ambient Sound mode, when switched on by pressing the button below the ear pad, adjusts the music levels so that important sounds like honking of a car or announcements being made at airports can be heard.

The Quick Listen mode in this headphone is a winner.  When the user needs to converse with a person in the outside world, he can do so without having to remove the headphones.  The user places his hand on the right ear cup and the volume of the music immediately drops, thus allowing the user to hear and converse with people.

The headphone has touch controls on the right ear cup.  Swiping left, right, up and down, allows the user to skip or move to next or previous tracks or to adjust the volume, respectively. Double tapping allows the user to pause or play tracks.  When Noise Cancellation is turned on, the headphone battery lasts for about 20 hours and with Noise Cancellation turned off, the battery lasts about 22 hours.  This makes it suitable for long travels without the fear of its battery depletion.

The headphone also includes a 3.5mm to 3.5mm connector which allows the headphone to work even when the battery dies.  The headphone charges with a standard USB charging cable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the touch interface easy to use for a layman?
The touch interface on the right ear cup is easily accessible and even a layman gets accustomed to it quickly.

Does the headphone’s noise cancellation work effectively on using with a 3.5mm jack?
When used with the 3.5mm jack, the headphones provide even better noise cancellation and sound quality than when used without the 3.5mm jack.

Is it good for voice calls?
The headphone has 4 built-in microphones which provide huge sound clarity when used for voice calling.

Bottom Line

MDR 1000x has been so beautifully and intricately designed with high-end technology that it is sure to appeal each and every customer out there looking for Noise Cancellation headphones with supreme sound quality.  Our Sony MDR 1000x review has covered almost all aspects of the product.

This beast is unparalleled in its degree of performance.  The quality of sound that it delivers is beyond expression.  With a battery life of 20 hours, it’s a treasure that the buyer will cherish.

Even if it fails to provide complete cancellation of wind sounds, it makes its way to the top of the list of Noise Cancellation headphones because of its performance in most noisy conditions.  Being on the pricey side, it’s worth every penny and will never make the buyer regret his/her decision.  To get more information on the MDR 1000x, click below and find out more about the wide range of possibilities it offers the user.
